Thailand Film Office
From its world renowned islands and beaches, to its backdrops of rice field laden plains and majestic mountains; from ancient temple ruins to "moonscaped" terrain, the diversity of filming locations in Thailand is endless. Coupled with a multi-lingual, professional production services industry, modern back lots and advanced technology filming equipment AND an economy which offers "value" for production budgets, it makes sense to Film in Thailand. Thailand has a thriving film production services industry. In the first half of 2009 there were 236 international film shoots in Thailand, generating approximately US $12.74 million into the economy. The Thailand Film Office, an official film commission member of the Association of Film Commissions International (AFCI), was established to help the film maker, whether commercial, documentary, music video, feature or still, navigate their way through to a seamless shoot. In order to facilitate fast processing of applications, a One Stop Service Center was established to coordinate between government agencies. For more information on the Center and application process, please visit http://www.thailandfilmoffice.org/ Foreign film crews are required to work with a local production coordinator to assist production needs. A list of recognized coordinators can be found on the Film Office website. INCENTIVES At the present time, Thailand does not have any formal incentives for foreign production shots however, the Thai government has as a priority establishing tax credits and other incentives for foreign production shoots and the Thailand Film Office in conjunction with the private sector Foreign Film Production Service Association is in the process of studying best alternatives. Most film producers and directors with experience filming in Thailand will tell you come to Thailand for added production value – it's not about the money: you come because you can make your production "bigger" on a smaller budget. E_MAGAZINE The Thailand Film Office has recently begun to publish a monthly E-magazine called FiT (Film in Thailand). The newsletter is filled with informative information about Thai Film Office news, interesting film shoot locations, local production company information and much, much more.
