Innovation: it is as American as mom, apple pie, and runaway inflation. Innovation is why we drive cars instead of ride horses. It is all about taking what is good and making it even better. In the film and television production business, innovation is not just a nice thing to have; it is essential for companies who want to stay competitive.

It’s time to take a look at various new products and technologies that are making our lives easier by helping us to work better, cheaper, and faster. Gosh, isn’t it fun playing with all these wonderful toys?

First of all, digital acquisition technology is making the workflow much smoother.

S.two Corp delivers for India’s First All-Digital Motion Picture

S.two Corporation, known for uncompressed Digital Cinematography production solutions for the excellent film Zodiac and 20 other features, can add India’s first all digital motion picture to their growing list of accomplishments. The firm has announced that Hidef Technologies, a Detroit area production company, is their latest client to use their hi-end production solutions.
Prasad Potluri of Hidef says, "We looked at everything available and S.two impressed us with their proven technology and complete workflow solutions. Our project is very prestigious as it will be the first completely file-based digital movie shot in India. The picture quality achieved in capturing uncompressed 4:4:4 images to S.two's Take2 recorder from our Thomson Viper and Sony F900R cameras is absolutely amazing; our green screen edges have never looked so clean.”

Another piece of technology that is streamlining both the production and post-production workflow is Cooke Optic’s i dataLink, which records camera lens data (metadata) for use in post-production, saving significant time in the post-production process for VFX and DI artists. The technology has been adapted for many applications and systems such as Avid non-linear editors. And of course, Cooke is known for manufacturing fine motion picture camera lenses. Right now, Cooke has actually got some clients seeing red.
