In the Navy
The Brooklyn Navy Yard continues to expand with various types of industries, one of the leading being the Steiner Studios, which occupy 310,000 square feet on a 15-acre site. It is used heavily for film and television productions. As many as 1,000 employees can be on the lot at one time, depending on the shooting schedules, according to Doug Steiner (718-858-1600). Newest renovation is a seven-story building from the World War II era, with 289,000 square feet of space. The expansion costs are estimated at about $50 million, and are of great benefit to production companies. |
